My research explores pyrethroid resistance in soybean aphid (Aphis glycines Matsumura). We've developed a rapid assessment bioassay for pyrethroid resistance in the soybean aphid and I'm hoping to pair that data with in-field insecticide efficacy that could aid growers in choosing effective management tools. I'll also be exploring accompanying fitness costs (or lack there of) that may be associated with pyrethroid resistance.

It all started with tending plants in my backyard garden. First I began noticing the pests, and then the predators. Eventually I saw them as a community, and realized the extent of the diversity and interactions occurring right in my backyard. Once I started learning about their varied lifestyles and examining them under a microscope I was hooked.

What is your favorite thing about UMN? During my undergrad I began working in the Koch Lab. I really enjoyed the lab and community around Hodson Hall and fell in love with the St. Paul campus. After spending some time here taking classes and getting to know many of the professors, it feels like home. It's really nice to be a part of a larger institution that cares about the relationship it has with the local community.
I really enjoy research, and would like to keep at it. Problem solving, discovery, teasing out the nuance of methods - sounds like fun to me!
