My research interests center around the discovery, evolution, biogeography, and conservation of insect biodiversity, especially in the Neotropics. I am motivated by an underlying desire to protect our Earth’s precious resources. I am especially concerned with the plight of the Tropical Andes, a top biodiversity hotspot. To draw awareness of the importance of protecting this unique region, it is vital to study and document the incredible biological diversity residing there. |

For my dissertation, I am studying the taxonomy, phylogeny, and historical biogeography of the caddisfly subfamily Protoptilinae (Glossosomatidae). Other research interests involve the application of systematics to benthology, life history studies of aquatic insects, bioassessment of aquatic ecosystems, and human-mediated dispersal of invasive insect species. |
