UMSP Trichoptera holdings Biota© database

All of the Collection's Trichoptera (caddisfly) holdings have been databased using the software Biota, the Biodiversity Database Manager©. The database stores specimen-level taxonomic, locality, and collection data. Each pinned specimen, or lot of alcohol preserved specimens, has a bar-code label that uniquely identifies the specimen (or lot) in the database. Currently, the database contains 115,100 specimen, 3067 species, 3734 locality, and 9248 collection records. The most recent version of the Biota database has an onboard Web server that creates and serves Web pages dynamically in response to queries and links activated by a remote user.

The database primarily includes material deposited in UMSP, but specimens on loan from other collections have also been databased and barcoded. Depository information for each specimen can be found under the general tab of each specimen record.
