Research Interests I was first introduced to scientific research as a 7th grade student in a required Life Science class where we were told that we were to participate in a local science fair. While my first project was rather simplistic, it indisputably piqued my interest in research, specifically that relating to the use of benthic macroinvertebrates for monitoring water quality. This interest continued throughout my high school and undergraduate careers. Coursework at St. Olaf College along with a summer spent working at the Water Resource Center at Minnesota State University, Mankato, where I developed and implemented a biologicalmonitoring scheme for the Greater Blue Earth River Watershed, solidified my desire to pursue a career in aquatic entomology. Recent experiences have increased my awareness and concern for large-scale manipulations to our environment, such as those associated with global climate change. My specific research interests involve studying the effects of climate change on the thermal regimes of trout streams in southeast Minnesota, using chironomids and other macroinvertebrates as indicators of changes in cold water stream ecosystems.
