Marion Brooks-Wallace

(1917 - 2007)

Professor Emerita

Marion Brooks-Wallace passed away peacefully on September 3, 2007, she was 89 years old.

Dr. Brooks-Wallace was a Professor in the Department of Entomology at the University of Minnesota. She started working at the University on September 15, 1956 and retired May 31, 1986.

Dr. Brooks-Wallace was also an alumna of the department, receiving both an M.S. and Ph.D. degree. She was awarded her M.S. degree in June 1950 and her thesis title was "The morphogenesis of the felt chambers in the post-abdominal spiracles of the larvae of Phormia regina Meigen (Diptera)"; She was awarded her Ph.D. in December 1954 (Advisor: Prof. A. G. Richards) and her thesis title was "Certain aspects of the histochemistry and metabolic significance of the intracellular bodies (bacteroids) of cockroaches (Blattariae)".

There will be a memorial service at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, September 21, 2007 at the Unity Unitarian Church, Portland @ Grotto, St. Paul, MN.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Nature Conservancy in Marion's name.

After she retired, Dr. Brooks-Wallace established a research fellowship in her name to support basic insect science research in the Department. This fellowship is awarded annually to the best Ph.D. applicant, continuing the scientific legacy of Dr. Brooks-Wallace.
