Research Interests:
I am interested in the systematics and taxonomy of the Trichoptera of
southeast Asia, particularly of the island of Borneo. I spent most of
1986 and parts of 1987-1989 living and working in northern Borneo and
I collected Trichoptera from approximately 80 localities largely in Sabah,
but also in Sarawak and Brunei. These collections resulted in the accumulation
of some 34,000 specimens and represented the first intensive inventory
of the Trichoptera of Borneo. Not unexpectedly, the material contained
mostly undescribed species. Taxonomic work based on this material has
been completed on Apsilochorema (of Hydrobiosidae), Gunungiella
(of Philopotamidae), Limnocentropus (of Limnocentropodidae), Dinarthrum
and Lepidostoma (of Lepidostomatidae), and 8 genera of Hydroptilidae
(Chrysotrichia, Scelotrichia, Stactobia, Orthotrichia, Ugandatrichia,
Hydroptila, Oxyethira, Hellyethira). I plan to continue this research
and hope to establish contacts with others interested in the caddisfly
fauna of Borneo,
