The Minnesota Center for Community Genetics was founded in 1994 as a University-wide, interdisciplinary graduate student training program, funded by the Graduate School at the University of Minnesota (U of M) between 1994 and 2000, and funding from the Minnesota Agricultural Station during 1998/99. It is currently supported by the College of Biological Sciences at the U of M as part of a matching grant to the NSF funded Biocomplexity Research Program at the U of M. The center draws faculty from six departments and two colleges at the U of M, and represent the disciplines agronomy, applied mathematics, ecology, entomology, evolution, plant biology, plant pathology, quantitative population and molecular genetics, and soil sciences. The Center has emphasized training of graduate students by providing (1) a weekly seminar, (2) sponsorship of visits by researchers who are actively contributing to this field, and (3) a grant program supporting graduate student research during the summer, travel to conferences, and a one-year fellowship. |
